Barcelona is already ready for the visit of Pope Leo XIV, which will take place on June 9 and 10 as part of his apostolic journey through Spain, which will also include a stop in the Canary Islands after his visit to Madrid. The Catalan capital will be the second major stage of the tour and will concentrate some of the most massive and symbolic events of the itinerary.

Among the most outstanding events are a prayer vigil at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium, a visit to the monastery of Montserrat, and a Mass at the Sagrada Familia, where the inauguration of the Tower of Jesus Christ will also take place.

Arrival of the Pope in Barcelona and first events

The Pontiff's stay will begin on Tuesday, June 9, with his arrival at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat airport at 12:25 PM, coming from Madrid.

After landing, Leo XIV will travel to the Cathedral of Barcelona, where at 1:00 PM he will recite the Midday Prayer, an event that will include a homily.

The first day will conclude at 8:00 PM at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium, where he will preside over a massive prayer vigil, one of the central moments of his visit to the city.

Agenda for Wednesday, June 10: Montserrat, charity, and Sagrada Familia

Wednesday, June 10, will concentrate the most intense agenda of the trip in Barcelona.

The day will begin at 10:50 AM with a visit to the Brians 1 Penitentiary Center, in Sant Esteve Sesrovires, where the Pope will greet inmates and staff of the center.

Subsequently, at 12:00 PM, Leo XIV will recite the Holy Rosary at the Abbey of Montserrat, where he will also have a private meeting with the Benedictine community.

At 1:00 PM, a private lunch with the monks of the monastery is scheduled.

In the afternoon, at 4:30 PM, the Pontiff will meet with charity and social action organizations at the Church of Sant Agustí de Barcelona, in a meeting focused on the Church's welfare work.

Mass at the Sagrada Familia and final act of the visit

The highlight of the visit will arrive at 7:30 PM at the Sagrada Familia Basilica, where Pope Leo XIV will preside over a massive Holy Mass, followed by the inauguration of the Tower of Jesus Christ, one of the architectural milestones of the temple designed by Antoni Gaudí.
