A 25-year-old Italian man has been hospitalized in Rome with hantavirus symptoms, after having shared a flight with a woman who later died from the disease, according to the Italian agency Ansa.
The patient, originally from the Calabria region, in southern Italy, has been transferred to the Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Infecciosas Lazzaro Spallanzani, a reference center in the country for the treatment of infectious diseases, where the necessary tests will be carried out to confirm or rule out the diagnosis.
The young man has been isolated preventively after it was detected that he traveled on the flight of the Dutch airline KLM from South Africa to the Netherlands with one of the two women who finally died from the hantavirus outbreak on the cruise ship MV Hondius.
