The Consejo General de la Abogacía Española and the Cámara de Comercio de España have launched the training cycle "Criminal liability of legal entities and regulatory compliance in Spain", as both entities reported this Thursday in a statement.

The initiative brings together jurists, magistrates, prosecutors, academics, and specialized lawyers with the purpose of offering a "practical and updated vision" of the evolution of criminal law applied to companies and its treatment in the courts.

During the sessions, "relevant" aspects will be addressed, such as the evolution of the corporate criminal liability regime, the real assessment that courts make of compliance programs, and the role of the lawyer in the prevention, risk management, and defense of companies.

The cycle will consist of eight sessions between May and July, will be held in a hybrid format (in-person and 'streaming') and will conclude in September with the presentation of the conclusions at the headquarters of the Cámara de Comercio de España.

After the inauguration, the first day was led by the magistrate of the Tribunal Supremo, Julián Sánchez Melgar; the Sala Prosecutor of the Criminal Section of the Tribunal Supremo, Consuelo Madrigal; and the technical secretary of the Observatorio de Cumplimiento and managing partner of Ayala de la Torre Abogados, José María Ayala.

The president of the Abogacía Española, Salvador González, has highlighted the relevance of continuous training to adapt to new regulatory and business demands.

"The Observatorio de Cumplimiento promotes training actions like this to reinforce the culture of compliance, integrity, and good governance of companies," concluded the general secretary of the Cámara, Adolfo Díaz-Ambrona.
