The PSOE-A led by María Jesús Montero has achieved this May 17th its worst historical result in Andalusian elections, securing 28 seats and 22.7% of the votes, worsening the previous historical minimum of 2022, when the candidacy headed by Juan Espadas obtained 30 deputies and 24.1% of the votes.

The socialist candidacy has managed to surpass 945,000 votes, about 57,000 more than in the 2022 regional elections, although that increase in ballots has not translated into a better percentage due to the increase in participation, which has approached 65%, more than eight points above that registered four years ago.

Montero promises to conduct a "serious and responsible opposition"

In her assessment of the votes obtained this May 17th, the socialist candidate, María Jesús Montero, said that they are not good results. "We take note of what the Andalusians express to us through the ballot boxes. This is a party that learns."

"We are the guarantee of equal opportunities," said Montero with the aim of regaining power. She previously promised to conduct an opposition with rigor, trying to contribute to citizens being the ones who win with our proposals."

PSOE-A loses ground in almost all provinces

The socialists have been the second force in all Andalusian provinces except in Almería, where Santiago Abascal and Vox have overtaken PSOE-A in votes, although both parties have tied with three seats in that constituency.

Compared to 2022, PSOE-A loses one deputy in Granada and another in Huelva, maintaining the rest of its provincial representation: three seats in Almería, Cádiz, and Córdoba; four in Jaén and Málaga; and five in Seville.

May 17th consolidates the collapse of Andalusian socialism

The result of this May 17th deepens the electoral deterioration of the Andalusian PSOE since the loss of the Junta in 2018. In those elections, the socialists still obtained 33 deputies and 27.9% of the vote.

The drop is even more pronounced when compared to the party's periods of greatest strength in Andalusia. In 2004, with Manuel Chaves as candidate, the PSOE achieved 61 deputies and more than 2.26 million votes, while in the first regional elections in 1982 it reached 66 seats and 52.5% of the votes.

Until now, the worst result for PSOE-A had been in 2022, with 888,325 votes and 30 deputies. This Sunday's result lowers that historical bar even further and leaves the Andalusian socialists below 30 seats for the first time since the creation of the autonomy.
