The Basque Parliament has rejected this Thursday an initiative by Vox that asked the Government of Spain to implement the so-called "national priority" in access to the healthcare system. The proposal garnered 66 votes against (PNV, EH Bildu, PSE-EE, and Sumar), seven abstentions (PP), and only had the support of the sole parliamentarian from the sponsoring group.

The non-binding proposal, finally dismissed by the Plenary, suggested that the regional Chamber demand from the central Executive the repeal of the royal decree that regulates the recognition of the right to health protection and healthcare for foreigners without legal residence in Spain.

Likewise, Vox demanded from the central Government "to establish national priority in access to the healthcare system in general," in addition to repatriating people of foreign origin who, "by not contributing with their work and effort to the national economy, erode the welfare state of Spaniards."

The party also proposed that the use of public services by immigrants with legal residence be "conditioned on their years of contributions." In relation to the Basque Government, it demanded, among other issues, "to urgently and preferentially address the real needs" of the Basque Health System in terms of personnel, funding, and resources.
