The health status of the only Spaniard confirmed with hantavirus after the outbreak detected on the cruise ship MV Hondius is improving favorably. The Minister of Health, Mónica García, assured this Friday that the patient is "almost asymptomatic," a clear improvement compared to the first days of the protocol activated after his transfer to Madrid.
The affected person remains admitted and isolated at the Gómez Ulla Central Defense Hospital, a reference center for this health monitoring, while the clinical control established for this type of case continues.
Patient's Evolution
The current situation represents an improvement compared to the information known in the initial moments of admission. Days ago, health officials had explained that the patient presented respiratory symptoms, a slight fever, and had required specific medical attention, although he remained stable.
The latest update clearly changes that picture, with a positive evolution that significantly reduces the presence of symptoms. Despite this, the health protocol remains active and the patient has not been discharged.
What about the rest of the group
The rest of the Spaniards transferred to Madrid after the episode detected on the cruise ship remain under medical observation, although so far the evolution is favorable. According to the information known, the other members of the group remain asymptomatic and with negative tests, a situation that has reduced the initial concern about possible additional infections. Health authorities maintain, however, the preventive control provided for this type of situation.
The case is part of the health operation activated after the hantavirus outbreak detected among passengers of the MV Hondius, the cruise ship where the episode was identified, which forced the activation of surveillance and isolation protocols.
From the outset, the Ministry of Health has insisted on close monitoring of possible contacts and the application of corresponding preventive measures.
