Oceanwide Expeditions, the company responsible for the cruise ship 'MV Hondius', has communicated that, "for the moment", no more symptomatic people with hantavirus have been detected on board. At the same time, it has pointed out that preparations are being finalized for the medical evacuation of those requiring urgent healthcare.
The shipping company specifies that the affected individuals are two crew members with acute respiratory symptoms and that, for this reason, "they continue to require urgent medical attention".
Regarding the investigations into the origin of the disease and a possible link between the cases, the company emphasizes that they "are ongoing".
In relation to the possible focus of hantavirus, Oceanwide Expeditions refers to the information disseminated by the World Health Organization (WHO) and to the words of its spokesperson, Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, who has pointed out the suspicion that the first infected person probably contracted it before boarding.
