The deputy secretary of Health and Social Policy of the People's Party (PP), Carmen Fúnez, has criticized that the "confusion" generated around the management of the cruise ship with hantavirus by the Government is "unacceptable," and has called for "constant" information to be offered to citizens.
"The confusion about hantavirus is unacceptable," he reiterated on the social network 'X', where he spoke a few hours after the Executive confirmed the agreement reached with the World Health Organization (WHO) to allow the vessel to dock in the Canary Islands.
Fúnez has conveyed her "support" to "the affected, especially the 14 Spaniards", and has stressed that "in a health crisis, clarity is essential", something that, in her opinion, has been lacking in the way the situation is being managed. "We share with the Government the need to convey reassurance, but we demand concrete and constant information", emphasized the PP leader.
These statements come after it was confirmed that the cruise ship is heading to the Canary Islands and its arrival is expected within three to four days, although the destination port has not yet been specified. The intention is to organize healthcare for passengers and crew on the islands following a strict international protocol.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Health has reported that it has accepted the formal request from the Government of the Netherlands to receive the doctor from the 'MV Hondius', who remains in serious condition. The doctor will be transferred to the Canary Islands in a medicalized plane in the coming hours to be treated in the archipelago.
