The deputy of Sumar-MÉS in Congress, Vicenç Vidal, has urgently requested the appearance of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, following the "attack" suffered by the activists of the flotilla to Gaza, among whom are six citizens from the Balearic Islands.

As the eco-sovereignists indicated in a statement, they intend for Albares to detail what diplomatic efforts the Government has made and what measures it has planned in response to the events attributed to Israel.

The party considers that the action of the Israeli navy in intercepting the members of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was heading to Gaza with humanitarian aid—including 200 school backpacks from Mallorca—in international waters, constitutes "an act of international piracy".

In this context, they have demanded that the Executive respond "with all the necessary force" to what they interpret as a violation of international law and human rights, and that it ensure the effective sending of humanitarian aid to the Strip.

Likewise, they demand that the protection of the activists participating in the flotilla be guaranteed and that the economic agreement between the European Union and Israel be suspended as long as human rights and international law are not respected.

"The backpacks prepared by the children of Mallorca symbolize the solidarity of a people who do not want to remain indifferent to Palestinian suffering. We cannot normalize that even humanitarian aid is persecuted," the eco-sovereignists have stressed.
