The Supreme Court of Brazil has unanimously resolved to declare Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, guilty of a crime of coercion of justice, within the proceedings opened against his father for a coup d'état, a case for which the far-right former president is serving a sentence of 27 years in prison.

The four magistrates have agreed to hold the also former deputy responsible for pressuring judges and for coordinating from the United States a campaign of sanctions against Brazil with the aim of obstructing the coup d'état proceedings against his father, including tariffs on exports announced last year and the suspension of visas for members of the Supreme Court.

Among these maneuvers is also the promotion of economic sanctions directed at the Supreme Court judge and rapporteur of the case, Alexandre de Moraes, who during the hearing recalled that the task of a parliamentarian is not to "lobby against their own country," according to the newspaper "O Globo".

The sentence, which could range between one and four years in prison, has not yet been set, as the court session is still ongoing, according to the Brazilian news agency.

Eduardo Bolsonaro lost his seat in the Chamber of Deputies in December 2025 due to unjustified absences, as he had been in the United States since February of the same year, where he traveled to intercede on behalf of his father.
