The Russian Executive has reported this Thursday new progress on the ground in Ukraine after taking control of another locality situated in the region of Kharkiv, in the northeast of the country, within the military offensive initiated in February 2022 by order of President Vladimir Putin.

"Units of the Northern military group have actively established control over the locality of Shesterovka, in Kharkiv," the Russian Ministry of Defense said in a brief statement, without commenting on casualties and without Kyiv having commented on the situation on the ground in the area.

In recent months, Russian forces have been consolidating positions and advancing on different fronts in Ukraine, with particular intensity in the east of the country. Moscow formalized in September 2022 the annexation of the partially occupied provinces of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia, while also managing to advance into territories of Kharkiv, Sumy, and Dnipropetrovsk, in addition to having incorporated the Crimean peninsula in 2014.
