The number of deceased from the collapse of a building under construction on May 24 in the city of Angeles, in northern Philippines, has risen to 21, after emergency services located the lifeless bodies of several workers under the remains of the structure.
"Rescue teams managed to pull the 21st victim, a baby, from quadrant two of the collapsed structure in the barangay (neighborhood) of Balibago, Angeles City. Operations continue as personnel proceed with search and rescue efforts throughout the collapse zone," the fire protection office of the Central Luzon region indicated on social media.
During Tuesday morning, rescue teams also found three other fatalities among the rubble. The death toll has been increasing as specialists advance in the careful removal of the remains of the nine-story building that collapsed on May 24.
Philippine authorities have launched an investigation to clarify what caused the collapse, which caused a power outage in the area and also caused damage to an adjacent hotel, where a 65-year-old Malaysian tourist with a disability lost his life.
