The Ministry of Education has selected La Rioja as an example of good practices in reading comprehension to participate in the next National Congress on Reading and Mathematics Competencies, as announced today by the Minister of Education, Alberto Galiana.
In this Congress, which will take place next week in Tarragona, La Rioja will assume the organization of the specific reading comprehension workshop, with the aim of presenting the work carried out in the educational centers of the community.
Galiana made this announcement during the plenary session of the Parliament of La Rioja, in response to a question posed by the socialist deputy Teresa Villuendas, who criticized that La Rioja registers a school dropout rate of 18.6 percent.
For Villuendas, this percentage is directly related to the insufficient investment in support, reinforcement, and guidance programs for students.
Galiana, who accused the socialist of engaging in "demagoguery" with the figures, reminded her that the school dropout indicator is a "lagging" indicator.
"Or do you want to tell me that this is a flash in the pan," he exclaimed, reproaching her for "throwing stones at the roof" of the previous socialist government of La Rioja.
Among the actions, the minister highlighted those promoted in the area of key competencies, emphasizing how the Ministry of Education has chosen La Rioja for its good practices and demanding "rigor" from the deputy.
