The deputy spokesperson for Sumar in Congress and deputy for Compromís, Alberto Ibáñez, has praised the "brave step" taken by ERC leader Gabriel Rufián, by showing himself willing to lead a left-wing alliance if it favors electoral unity, and has stressed that he is a "good leader".
At the same time, he has insisted that now is the time to act with serenity so that the leaderships of the political formations can assimilate this proposal, since they often find it difficult to interpret what the citizens are demanding in the streets.
In statements to the media in Congress, Ibáñez has considered it positive that figures such as Rufián, IU, Comuns, or Compromís are able to interpret the historical moment that the left is experiencing, despite internal differences. In his opinion, generosity and the construction of a shared project that integrates the different sectors of the progressive space, respecting their "differences," are essential.
As an example, he has argued that in the Valencian Community, a single ballot for the left should be articulated, integrating forces such as IU or ERC under the leadership of Compromís. In this context, he interprets Rufián's gesture as "one more step" in that direction of confluence.
Ibáñez has also highlighted the figure of the ERC spokesperson, recognizing that he connects particularly well with young people, a segment where the left is finding it more difficult to reach.
Finally, he has insisted that "now we must let people absorb what happened yesterday," when Rufián offered himself as a possible unity candidate, given that "often the party leaderships find it difficult to understand the demands from the street."
