The Consultative Council of Parliamentary Communication, the body created to guarantee compliance with the Rules of the Congress, meets this Thursday starting at 10:45 AM. The meeting, convened by the president of the Lower House, Francina Armengol, takes place after the decision of the Board on April 28 to open a file against Vito Quiles following the complaint by the deputy Ione Belarra.
On February 10, 2026, the deputy and secretary general of Podemos starred in a tense confrontation with the activist in the press room of Congress. The clash occurred after Quiles questioned the leader about her management and accused her of promoting racist terrorism, to which Belarra responded by avoiding the question and accusing him of doing the "dirty work" for the PP and Vox, also questioning who pays him and if he already "had the Popular Party card".
The incident led Podemos to formally request the Lower House's Board to withdraw Quiles' press accreditation, whom they described as an "ultra agitator".
According to sources close to the Presidency told Demócrata, the Advisory Council on Communication meets under the provisions of Article 98.11 of the Rules of Congress: "The sanctioning procedure shall be governed by what is established by the Board of the Chamber within the framework of the principles of sanctioning law present in the Constitution and in current legislation."
This is not the first incident involving Quiles that has ended up on the Council's table, the previous ones are now awaiting the Chamber's lawyers to issue the final report.
BEGOÑA GÓMEZ
This meeting comes amid the ongoing controversy over the latest incident involving Vito Quiles. Last week, the wife of the President of the Government, Begoña Gómez, reported the activist to the National Police for an alleged episode of harassment and assault after being confronted in a cafeteria in Las Rozas, Madrid.
The following day, Quiles published a video on his social media in which he stated that he was going to file a lawsuit against her and the friends who accompanied her during the incident. The video was recorded in the office of the PP deputy Alma Alfonso, which has generated strong criticism for the alleged collusion between the party and the activist.
