The Government has activated a special tracking device for the expected arrival of the cruise ship MV Hondius.

The Minister of Health, Mónica García, and the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, will travel this Saturday to Tenerife together with the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, to supervise in real time the arrival of the ship at the port of Granadilla, in the south of the island.

The operation will be centralized in a command post from which the different administrations involved will be coordinated, with the objective of ensuring compliance with health and epidemiological control protocols.

Passenger transfer and extended quarantine

The Government has confirmed that the 14 Spanish citizens traveling on board will be evacuated on a military plane and transferred to the Gómez Ulla Military Hospital, in Madrid, where they will undergo medical evaluation.

Health authorities have established a quarantine of up to 42 days for asymptomatic cases, a period that could be reduced depending on clinical evolution and the assessment of contagion risk.

Maximum surveillance operation

The ship, MV Hondius, departed from Cape Verde bound for Tenerife, with an estimated crossing of more than three days. Its arrival is scheduled for this Sunday, at which time the health and security device will be deployed.

The Executive insists that the main objective is to contain any possible epidemiological risk, while guaranteeing medical care for passengers and international coordination in managing the outbreak.
