The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will be present at the visit of Pope Leo XIV to the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona and at the event that the pontiff will hold in the Congress of Deputies in Madrid, during the apostolic visit to Spain planned for early June.

Initially, it was contemplated that Sánchez and the Pope would have a single meeting on Monday, June 8, at the headquarters of the Apostolic Nunciature in the capital, but sources from the Executive indicate that the head of government will also lead the governmental delegation in these two public events.

After his visit to Madrid and Barcelona, Leo XIV will travel to the Canary Islands, a stage of the tour very focused on migration arriving on the islands, in which the Government trusts that a clear harmony will be evident between the Pope's view on this phenomenon and the Executive's position.

Next week, as a prelude to Francis Prevost's trip to Spain, Sánchez will travel to Rome, where he will be received by the Pope at the Holy See on Wednesday, May 27.

In this visit, according to government sources, a meeting with the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, could also be held on Tuesday the 26th. It is not yet fully closed, but both governments are working to confirm it.
