The First Vice Presidency of the Consell and the Ministry of Housing has requested an extension of 30 days from the investigation committee on the awarding of public housing (VPP) in Les Corts to deliver the documentation required by this body, according to parliamentary sources have indicated to Europa Press.

Specifically, in a letter sent this Monday by the Director General of Relations with Les Corts, Juan María Martínez, to the regional chamber, the first vice president and minister of Housing, Employment, Youth and Equality, Susana Camarero, asks for "a 30-day extension of the deadline set to respond to the request for documentation required as a consequence of the work plan approved by the investigation committee".

The same sources have pointed out that last Thursday the Ministry of Housing maintained that it already had the documentation requested by the investigation committee, but that it had requested a report from the Data Protection Office to clarify "whether they could deliver it or not". The PSPV has defined this situation as an "excuse" for not providing it.

The first session of appearances of this parliamentary body took place last week, with the intervention of the former deputy mayor and former councilor for Urban Planning Miguel Ángel Pavón, the former councilor Natxo Bellido, the former councilors for Finance Sofía Morales and Antonio Gallego, and the head of the technical works department of the City Council and advisor responsible for the alienation contract, Antonio Faura.

Pavón, Bellido and Morales, who were part of the PSPV-Compromís-Guanyar Alacant tripartito, distanced themselves from the alleged irregularities in the awarding of VPPs in the Les Naus residential complex, in Playa de San Juan, and pointed to the current mayor, Luis Barcala (PP), as "the main political responsible party" for the controversy, which arose when it became known that several apartments were awarded to municipal public officials or people close to them.

For his part, the former councilor for Finance and Heritage of the PP in the Alicante City Council, Toni Gallego, stated that the former 'popular' councilor Rocío Gómez --who resigned in January 2026 after it became public that she was awarded a VPP in the Les Naus residential complex on municipal land and is being investigated in the judicial case for alleged irregularities in these awards-- commented to him in the municipal plenary session of July 2024 that "she had a house there".

TWO MORE SESSIONS IN THE COMING WEEKS

The commission has set two other sessions of hearings for this Wednesday, July 8, and Thursday, the 23rd. Summoned to the first are, among others, the former municipal director-general and head of the Contracting Service, María Pérez-Hickman, and to the second, the former mayor Gabriel Echávarri --who should have attended last week but did not because he had a court summons that same day--, the promoter of Les Naus, Francisco Ordiñana, and the general secretary of Provia, Jesualdo Ros.

The objective of the commission is to clarify the VPP awards both in the Les Naus development, built on municipal land in Playa de San Juan (Alicante) and at the center of controversy for having benefited officials of the Alicante City Council and people linked to them, as well as in all those awards made during the current legislature that are included in the work plan.

In May, the work plan of this body, established on March 5, was approved, in which PP and Vox agreed that the mayor of Alicante, the 'popular' Luis Barcala, will finally appear before the commission. However, the first ones summoned to testify are former officials of the City Council, with the exception of a technical advisor.

PP and Vox agreed at the time to incorporate the testimony of the mayor of Alicante, the 'popular' Luis Barcala, but they left out, from among the 81 proposed witnesses, other officials such as the 'expresident' of the Generalitat Carlos Mazón, the current head of the Consell, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, and the first vice-president and councilor for Housing, Susana Camarero.
