OpenAI, the 'startup' behind ChatGPT, plans to strengthen its presence in the German market with the opening of a new headquarters in Berlin, which will join the office already operating in Munich, according to the company's CEO, Sam Altman, in an interview with "Handelsblatt".
"Germany has always been one of our largest and fastest-growing markets," Altman noted, who specified that, although a specific date for the inauguration of the new space in Berlin has not yet been set, it should take place "very soon".
Alongside the expansion of its office network in Germany, the American tech company is analyzing different alternatives to deploy its own infrastructure in the country, with the aim of responding to the increase in demand for computing capacity needed to train and run its artificial intelligence models.
In this context, Altman has maintained contacts with members of the German government to explore the possible construction of a data center on national territory, although for now those conversations have not resulted in specific agreements.
"Ultimately, each country must decide whether it wants to build data centers within its borders or rent access in other countries," he stated.
