Ryanair has assured that the failure in the electrical supply of the control tower of Barcelona-El Prat Airport, now resolved, has caused delays to about 6,000 customers of the company this Wednesday, calling it "unacceptable" that such an incident occurs during the peak of summer traffic.
In a note sent to the media, the airline lashes out at Enaire after its recent announcement of the deployment of 70 actions to address the expected increase in flights during the summer campaign, and demands urgent explanations about why the system has failed.
In the words of the Operations Director, Neal McMahon, "Enaire can announce 70, 700, or 7,000 measures, but none of them will be of any use if the air traffic control in Barcelona is not able to keep the lights on and the backup system also fails."
Regarding the volume of affected users, the company regrets that passengers are bearing the consequences of the problems of the Spanish air traffic control system, while reminding of the "high" fees that are applied.
According to Aena, around 14:00 hours, takeoffs and landings were temporarily suspended due to the incident recorded at Barcelona Airport, while at 15:30 hours the electrical supply was restored to 100% and "the normal operation is gradually being recovered."
In total, of the 1,124 operations planned at the airport for this Wednesday, 10 diversions have been recorded.
