Wizz Air has decided to advance the opening of its new base in Santiago de Compostela to December 17, from where it will operate five domestic routes. At the same time, the company has announced the start of three new connections that will link Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia with several strategic destinations in Romania and Moldova starting on that same date.
In a first phase, the 'low cost' airline will connect Galicia with the Canary Islands, Andalusia, and Aragon. From December 17, the first flights to Malaga, Tenerife North, and Zaragoza will take off, while on December 18, routes to Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura will be added, as detailed by the company in a note.
The international network is also strengthened with a new connection between Valencia and Chisinau (Moldova) starting December 17, with three weekly flights. This is in addition to the links from Barcelona and Madrid to Brasov (Romania), which will operate with two frequencies a week starting December 18 and 20, respectively.
According to Wizz Air, this double move consolidates its position in mainland Spain and the archipelagos, boosting local economies and tourism, while providing an economical alternative for families traveling to visit friends and relatives during the winter holidays.
"By connecting Galicia with the Canary Islands, Andalusia, and Aragon, along with the launch of new international connections from Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia to Romania and Moldova, we are giving Spanish travelers unprecedented access to sustainable and low-cost air travel just before the holiday season," said the corporate communication manager at Wizz Air, Vera Jardan.
