Andalusia opens this Sunday, May 17, a decisive electoral day to elect the new regional Parliament. The main candidates for the Presidency of the Board will exercise their right to vote during the morning in different parts of the community, in an agenda spread between Malaga, Seville, and the province of Cadiz.

The day will serve to measure whether Juanma Moreno manages to revalidate the Andalusian government with a sufficient majority, whether María Jesús Montero manages to mobilize the socialist electorate, whether Vox gains weight in future governance and whether Por Andalucía and Adelante Andalucía manage to reinforce the space to the left of the PSOE.

Before the closing of the polling stations and the scrutiny, the morning will leave the first political image of the day: the candidates voting in their polling stations, accompanied by their teams and, in some cases, by family members.

Voting schedule of Andalusian candidates this 17M

The first of the main candidates to vote will be Antonio Maíllo, candidate for Por Andalucía. He is scheduled to exercise his right to vote in Seville, at the Salesianos Santísima Trinidad School, located on María Auxiliadora street, around 10:00 AM.

Half an hour later, at 10:30 AM, Juanma Moreno will vote. The president of the Board and candidate for re-election for the PP-A will do so at the Sagrado Corazón de Jesús school in Malaga, the province for which he heads the popular list in these regional elections.

Also at 10:30 AM, José Ignacio García, candidate for Adelante Andalucía, will vote. He will do so at the Sala Paul in Jerez de la Frontera, in the province of Cadiz. According to his campaign, he will be accompanied by his mother when casting his vote.

At 11:00 AM, it will be María Jesús Montero's turn. The candidate for the PSOE-A will vote in Seville capital, at the Colegio de Escuelas Profesionales Sagrada Familia Nuestra Señora de los Reyes, near the Macarena neighborhood.

The last of the main candidates to vote will be Manuel Gavira, Vox's list leader for Cadiz. He is scheduled to go to the polls at 11:30 AM at the San Vicente de Paúl school, in the capital of Cadiz.

Moreno votes in Malaga, the province for which he heads the PP-A list

Juanma Moreno will exercise his right to vote in Malaga, a key province for the PP-A and with special symbolic weight for the Andalusian president. Moreno arrives at 17M seeking to repeat a sufficient majority that will allow him to govern without depending on Vox.

The image of his vote in Málaga will be one of the most anticipated of the morning. The popular candidate has focused the campaign's closing on asking his electorate for mobilization and avoiding any overconfidence.

Montero votes in Seville after a campaign focused on health and public services

María Jesús Montero will vote in Seville, a city from which she has developed a good part of her Andalusian political career. The socialist candidate arrives at the electoral day with the challenge of improving the position of the PSOE-A and activating the progressive voter.

Her vote in the Macarena area will mark one of the political moments of the morning. Montero has presented these elections as an examination of the management of public services in Andalusia, with a special emphasis on healthcare throughout the campaign.

Gavira and García vote in Cádiz and Jerez

The province of Cádiz will concentrate two of the day's notable images. Manuel Gavira, Vox's candidate, will vote in Cádiz capital. His party aspires to grow and, above all, to become decisive if the PP does not achieve an absolute majority.

Also in the province of Cádiz, José Ignacio García, candidate for Adelante Andalucía, will vote. He will do so in Jerez de la Frontera, accompanied by his mother. García has starred in a very visible campaign in debates and on social media, with the aim of reinforcing the Andalusian space to the left of the PSOE.

Maíllo opens the voting schedule in Seville

Antonio Maíllo will be the first to vote among the main candidates. The leader of Por Andalucía will go to the Santísima Trinidad Salesian College in Seville in the morning. His candidacy attempts to consolidate the space of IU, Sumar, Podemos and other progressive forces on a day when the alternative left is also playing for its parliamentary weight.

Maíllo's vote will be one of the first political images of March 17 and will open a morning marked by the candidates' gestures before the focus shifts to participation and, at night, to the count.

Candidates' voting times

  • 10:00 AM — Antonio Maíllo votes in Seville, at the Santísima Trinidad Salesian College.
  • 10:30 AM — Juanma Moreno votes in Málaga, at the Sagrado Corazón de Jesús school.
  • 10:30 AM — José Ignacio García votes in Jerez de la Frontera, at Sala Paul.
  • 11:00 AM — María Jesús Montero votes in Seville, at the Colegio de Escuelas Profesionales Sagrada Familia Nuestra Señora de los Reyes.

A morning of ballot boxes before the count

The election day begins with the opening of polling stations and with the candidates spread across their reference provinces. During the morning, the interest will be in the constitution of the polling stations, possible incidents, and the first participation data.

In the afternoon, the focus will shift to the participation figure at 6:00 PM, one of the most important signals before the polling stations close. And from 8:00 PM onwards, the count will begin, which will decide the new political map of Andalusia.
