The Colombian authorities have updated the number of deceased to 289 due to the earthquake registered on August 10 in the department of Chocó, in the northwest of the country, a downward correction compared to the 295 fatalities reported initially.
The National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) has made this new count public, in which the number of missing persons is also significantly reduced, going from 320 to 143.
In contrast, the number of injured slightly increases to 3,937, while emergency teams have managed to rescue 353 people in the affected areas.
The earthquake has impacted 15 departments and 448 municipalities in the country, leaving so far a balance of 54,382 affected families and a total of 115,461 people affected.
Regarding material damages, the earthquake and its successive aftershocks have caused harm to more than 81,500 homes, completely destroyed more than 14,700, and caused the collapse of 66 buildings in the areas hit by the tremor.
Damage has also been recorded in 234 health centers and 2,535 educational centers, figures somewhat lower than those reported hours earlier, as well as in 3,782 community centers spread across the different affected regions.
Finally, in terms of infrastructure, the UNGRD has verified damages in just over 300 roads, 62 aqueducts, 44 bridges, and five airports, which evidences the magnitude of the earthquake's impact on the country's communication and basic services network.
