The Israeli Government has warned that the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) is trying to implement a "Hezbollah model" in the Gaza Strip, after it announced on Monday the dissolution of its governing structure in the Palestinian enclave to pave the way for the transfer of powers to the technocrat committee included in the peace proposal of the President of the United States, Donald Trump.
Israel's Foreign Minister, Gideon Saar, has questioned the reasons given by Hamas and maintains that, with this move, the Islamist organization seeks to evade its disarmament. "Hamas is interested in a 'Hezbollah model' in Gaza," he said in a message on social media, in what has become the first public reaction from the Executive.
"The technocrat committee will be responsible for garbage collection and municipal services, while Hamas will remain the dominant military force," Saar ironized, warning that, as long as weaponry remains under Hamas's control, any civil administration will be subjected to "its dictates."
"Hamas will be able to continue with the repression of Palestinians in Gaza and jihad against Israel," added the head of Israeli diplomacy, who stresses that the plan promoted by Trump will be applied "as is," with "the disarmament of Hamas and other terrorist groups" and "the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip" as central elements.
Hamas confirmed this Monday the dissolution of the body that has governed the Gaza Strip for the last two decades, within the framework of President Trump's peace plan, which contemplates the formation of a civil administration with a technocratic profile to pilot the reconstruction of the Palestinian enclave after the Israeli bombings, which are still ongoing.
