Venezuelan authorities have updated the death toll from the two strong earthquakes that shook the central coastal strip of the country on June 24, raising the figure to over 4,300 deceased. The number of injured remains unchanged from the latest official statements, with a total of 16,740 affected.

The president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, detailed at a press conference this Saturday that exactly 4,333 people have lost their lives as a consequence of the earthquakes, which represents 215 more deaths than in the previous count. Likewise, he put the number of injured at 16,740 following the earthquakes of magnitude 7.5 and 7.2 on the Richter scale, which have also caused considerable damage to 856 buildings, 190 of which have collapsed.

Among the victims, 18,437 people are also housed in temporary shelters, according to data released by Venezuelan authorities. They have also specified that they have provided assistance to 86,794 families, managed to rescue 6,462 people, and distributed more than 9,766 tons of food in the affected areas.

2,422 international rescuers remain deployed in the emergency operation, around a thousand fewer than on Friday, along with 31,837 personnel mobilized to respond to the consequences of the strong tremors. According to the latest official report issued from Caracas, the main shocks have been followed by 1,202 aftershocks.
