The Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, has conveyed to the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, his condolences for the deceased and the people affected by the fire declared in the Almerian municipality of Los Gallardos, which for now has caused 12 deaths and has burned more than 6,000 hectares.
Merz has joined in recent hours the list of European leaders who have offered their support to the Spanish Executive and have placed themselves at its disposal for any type of assistance in what the German leader has described as a tragedy.
"The news about the fire catastrophe in Andalusia is devastating. I have expressed my condolences to the President of the Spanish Government," Merz stated in a message disseminated on social networks. "Our thoughts are with the numerous injured and with the families of the victims. We hope they find comfort," he added.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, thanked this Saturday the multiple messages of solidarity and condolences sent in recent hours by various countries and international organizations.
"I appreciate all the solidarity and condolences that so many countries and Foreign Ministers are conveying to me for Almería, Andalusia, and Spain in these painful moments due to the terrible fires," Albares stated through a statement on social networks.
The head of Foreign Affairs also emphasized that his department maintains constant contact with the States that have citizens among those affected by the fire.
Along with the heads of the European Union institutions, the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni; the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, and the Prime Minister of Portugal, Luís Montenegro, have expressed their closeness to those affected since Friday and have offered Spain all the help it may require to combat the flames.
