The Green Party of Brazil has officially confirmed this Friday its support for the candidacy of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva ahead of the general elections scheduled for next October 4.
In a national convention held virtually, the ecological party has ratified the current head of state as the reference of its coalition for the upcoming elections. However, the nomination of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, a member of the Workers' Party (PT), will not be registered definitively until his own party holds its internal convention next Sunday.
"The party's commitment to dialogue among democratic forces and to the construction of a political project centered on sustainability, social inclusion, and the strengthening of institutions," the greens have stated, emphasizing that this is the priority axis of their electoral strategy.
The organization had already expressed this same position during its participation in the convention of the Democratic Labor Party last week, where it was represented by the vice president of the formation, Reynaldo Nunes.
At the polls, Lula will mainly face Flávio Bolsonaro, son of the convicted former president Jair Bolsonaro. The Brazilian leader faces this contest in a complex context, after the Federal Supreme Court authorized an investigation against his son, Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, for his alleged involvement in a case of influence peddling related to the granting of licenses for medicinal cannabis linked to the Ministry of Health.
