The shooting that occurred last Friday at a school in Thailand has already raised its toll to eight dead (nine if the perpetrator, who took his own life, is included) after a twelve-year-old student from the school died from gunshot wounds the previous night.
The attacker, also a student at the school, first killed his grandparents and then headed to his institute, a renowned secondary school, the Depsirin Nonthaburi School, located in the central province of Nonthaburi, where he ended the lives of five teachers and the minor.
The initial investigations suggest that the young man killed his grandparents at the family home in the municipality of Bang Bua Thong before appearing at around 10:00 AM local time at the school. As soon as he entered the premises, he began shooting indiscriminately with a 9mm pistol.
The student, who was in his third year of secondary school, was recognized because he was wearing the purple physical education uniform of the school. His body was later found in one of the classrooms.
The incident on Friday has become one of the deadliest armed attacks in educational institutions that have occurred recently in Thailand. In February of this same year, another shooting took place at a school in the province of Songkhla, resulting in one death and several injuries.
However, the most tragic episode in recent years in a school environment in the country occurred in October 2022, when a former police officer killed 37 people, including 22 minors, in the province of Nong Bua Lam Phu.
