Two people have lost their lives this Sunday when a light aircraft crashed in the vicinity of Neuhaus, in southern Austria. Two other people on board were seriously injured and have been transferred to different hospitals.

According to the Austrian public broadcaster ORF, among the deceased are the pilot, a 47-year-old man, and a passenger, also a 47-year-old woman who was traveling in the aircraft.

A 15-year-old minor is in serious condition and has been evacuated by helicopter to Linz, while a 41-year-old man, also in serious condition, has been admitted to a hospital in Amstetten, a spokesman for the emergency services, Philipp Gutlederer, has indicated.

The light aircraft had taken off from the Seitenstetten aerodrome and crashed around 11:00 AM in a mountainous area, as detailed by the Police, who have highlighted the scale of the rescue operation activated after the accident.

Police officers, fire brigades, high mountain rescue teams, and ambulances, in addition to two helicopters, participated in the operation. One of the main obstacles for the emergency services was the absence of mobile phone coverage in the area, so communications were carried out exclusively by radio.
