Two pilots of the United States Army have lost their lives this Wednesday in Texas when the military helicopter they were traveling in crashed, an incident whose causes have not yet been clarified by the authorities.
The aircraft, an AH-64 Apache that had taken off from the Fort Hood military base, crashed in the town of Salado, Texas, around 1:35 PM local time. The impact caused an intense fire that quickly got out of control and forced the evacuation of the nearby area, with no information yet on the flight's destination.
The two crew members were taken to a hospital, where their death could only be certified, according to the spokesperson for the Bell County Sheriff's Office, Cliff Coleman. The police representative specified that the helicopter did not impact any structure or people on the ground. "It crashed in a field, and it was evident that it had been a violent crash," he noted, according to CNN.
The governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, has expressed his condolences through social media and has shown his recognition to those who serve the state and the country. "Join Cecilia and me in prayer for their families and for the entire Fort Hood community," he stated, also mentioning his wife.
