The leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, communicated this Wednesday that his party will present a resource before the Supreme Court against the decision of several ministers of the Government not to attend the Senate during the month of August to "inform the Ceutíes" and the whole of Spaniards "why Ceuta has been invaded."
As he explained, the 'popular' intend for the High Court to determine whether the members of the Executive "can refuse to appear in the Chamber of territorial representation of the General Courts" and "not inform about what has happened in Ceuta." "The Government cannot decide in which Chamber it accepts to be controlled," he emphasized in an appearance before the media from the autonomous city, referring to Moncloa's argument of limiting itself to the sessions of Congress.
Feijóo stressed that the fact of attending the lower Chamber "does not exempt" ministers from their duty to account also in the Senate, which was the institution that demanded their presence "in the first place."
Constitutional obligation and criticism of management
The president of the PP has insisted that they will use "all the instruments at hand" to ensure that "this constitutional obligation" is respected and has described as "demolishing" that "some European prime ministers" have given explanations before the head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez.
In his speech, he denounced that "the absolute irresponsibility of the central government is leaving unprotected more than 80,000 Spaniards residing in Ceuta. It is also leaving to their fate thousands of people who wander the streets and beaches, many of them without food."
Appearing before the Supreme after weeks without explanations
Feijóo added that the PP has found itself "in the obligation" to go to the Supreme after three weeks hearing, from the Government, that "everything is under control," but, in his opinion, "without effective solutions" and without offering "a single explanation of what has happened."
Appearances in Congress in August
Meanwhile, the Executive registered last Friday in Congress the requests for appearances, at their own request and in extraordinary period, of the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska; of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares; of Defense, Margarita Robles; and of Justice, Presidency and Relations with the Courts, Félix Bolaños.
According to the established calendar, Robles will appear before the lower house on Tuesday, August 25; Bolaños will do so on Thursday, August 27; and Marlaska and Albares will intervene on Friday, August 28, each before their corresponding committee.
These appointments, intended to report on the migration crisis in which more than 72,000 migrants entered Ceuta illegally from Morocco, were expanded this Monday with the request for the appearance in Congress of the Minister of Health, Mónica García; the head of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz; and the person in charge of Childhood and Youth, Sira Rego, who will present on the 27th, 28th, and 31st of August, respectively.
