The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, warned this Wednesday from Ceuta that "any aggression" directed against Ceuta or Melilla constitutes "an aggression against all of Spain," emphasizing that both autonomous cities are "very Spanish" and that, consequently, "they are not to be touched."
"It must be very clear that what happened on the 30th cannot happen again, and that Ceuta and Melilla are not just Spanish, they are very Spanish. Precisely for that reason, they are not to be touched; any aggression against Ceuta and Melilla is against Spain as a whole," the minister conveyed during a media briefing in Ceuta.
Robles made these statements after the remarks of the Moroccan Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, who, in his view, "again doubts" Spanish sovereignty over the two autonomous cities.
In an interview this Tuesday, Ouahbi stated that the sovereignty of the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla remains a "pending" issue, in line with previous statements, although it is a policy "in the long term." "In September there will be meetings with Morocco and Spain, and we continue to cling to our lands. This requires a long-term approach, and we want to resolve the problem through dialogue," the minister affirmed.
