The spokesperson for Esquerra Republicana in Congress, Gabriel Rufián, has called on his party this Thursday to leave behind "endogamous and infantile triumphalism" and get to work to counter the advance of Aliança Catalana. His words come after the latest electoral poll by the Centre d'Estudis d'Opinió (CEO) of the Generalitat, which places both parties in a practically tied second position in terms of seats.
According to this survey, the PSC would win the next Catalan elections with between 36 and 38 deputies, while ERC would obtain between 24 and 26, practically at the same level as Alliança Catalana, which is attributed between 23 and 25 seats. The pro-independence list led by Silvia Orriols would thus surpass Junts, which would be left with a range of 16 to 18 representatives in the Parliament. Behind them would appear PP and Vox, tied in fifth place with between 12 and 13 seats, and, in last place, Comuns and the CUP, with between four and five deputies each.
For Rufián, the fact that Aliança Catalana could become the second political force in Catalonia is a "national shame," a possibility that, in his opinion, should push "normal" parties to mobilize to combat its message. "Starting with my party," he stressed in a comment published on his 'X' profile and reported by Europa Press.
The ERC leader believes that facing this scenario should be "the only relevant thing" on the political agenda, and that any other approach "is endogamous and infantile triumphalism." "Nothing to celebrate and much to work on," the Catalan deputy concluded, who in recent times has been advocating for the convenience of articulating a sovereignist left-wing front on a state level.
