The volume of passengers arriving in Spain from Italy and who have been identified in the checks ordered by the Government at Spanish airports, in response to the suspension of Schengen by this country following the migratory crisis recorded in Ceuta on July 30, exceeds 6,800 people, according to the latest data provided by the Ministry of the Interior.

In detail, by 1:00 PM this Thursday, August 20, the number of travelers who have been required to show documentation upon their arrival in Spanish territory stood at 6,888. In total, 622 flights have been supervised and 1,014 agents have participated in these tasks.

Since Wednesday, 740 passengers have gone through this procedure, of which the majority (272) landed on seven planes at Adolfo Suárez-Madrid Barajas Airport. At El Prat Airport (Barcelona), another 253 nationals from third countries coming from ten different flights had to be identified.

A similar situation has occurred at Bilbao Airport, where the documentation of 12 people traveling on three different flights has been checked; at Sevilla, where controls have been applied to 15 people arriving on two planes; and in Málaga, where two passengers have been counted on a single flight.

At Alicante Airport, checks have been carried out on 63 nationals from third countries arriving on eight flights, while in Valencia, the documentation of 29 passengers from two different flights has been verified.

At the airports in the Balearic Islands, the highest number of identifications has been concentrated in Ibiza, with 14 passengers spread across three flights. In Mallorca, ten passengers from two flights have been affected, and in Menorca, eight nationals from third countries have been registered in seven flights subjected to control.

In the Canary Islands, the breakdown is as follows: 42 passengers checked in six flights at Tenerife Sur Airport; 16 identifications at Lanzarote Airport corresponding to two flights; and no person identified in Fuerteventura despite two flights being checked. In Gran Canaria, four people arriving on two flights to the island were identified.
