The Government of Spain has expressed this Wednesday its rejection of the latest attacks carried out by Iran against several countries in the Gulf and Jordan, demanding an "urgent de-escalation" and respect for the "ceasefire" in the current standoff between the Middle Eastern country and the United States.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Executive has expressed its "deep concern" over the "extension of instability" in the region, referring, among other aspects, to the threats against Saudi vessels in the Bab-el-Mandeb strait, which it has rejected "categorically." The Government has also conveyed its solidarity to its "partners" and to the families and loved ones of the victims of these attacks.
The pronouncement comes after the Iranian Army has claimed this Wednesday responsibility for a drone attack against a garrison of the United States Armed Forces located in western Kuwait and Jordan, as well as a second bombing in Bahrain against an Amazon facility that it has described as the "digital eye" of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM). In this context, the Spanish Executive has labeled these attacks as "unjustified."
At the same time, Foreign Affairs has expressed its concern over the "growing instability in Yemen" and has reiterated its "support" for the Presidential Leadership Council "in its efforts to ensure the stability of the country against attempts of interference in internal affairs, in violation of Security Council Resolution 2216."
To conclude, the Government has insisted on the need for an immediate de-escalation and respect for the ceasefire, along with the return of all parties to the negotiating table as the "only way to move towards lasting peace and stability in the Middle East." "Spain reiterates its strongest commitment to diplomacy, dialogue, and respect for international law," the Ministry has emphasized.
