The French health authorities reported this Thursday a positive case of hantavirus detected in a tourist who is isolated in Spain with his family after having passed through France during the second half of July.
The French Ministry of Health explained, through a statement, that the affected no longer shows symptoms of the disease, although it has not provided data about his nationality or about the Spanish autonomous community in which he remains isolated.
It is the Andes variant
The National Reference Center (CNR) in France has confirmed that the case corresponds to the Andes variant of hantavirus, a strain originating from South America that has an unusual characteristic compared to other hantaviruses: it can be transmitted between people when there is close and prolonged contact.
The health authorities have not reported, for the moment, any new infections related to this case or any affected persons in France.
