Brian Uriarte won the Moto3 German Grand Prix race after a duel decided in the final meters. The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider defeated Máximo Quiles by a margin of only 0.063 seconds.
Uriarte, who had achieved the first pole position of his world championship career on Saturday, converted the starting position into his second victory of the season after the one achieved in Mugello.
An overtake on the last lap
Uriarte and Quiles managed to distance themselves from the rest of the group during the final part of the race. They exchanged positions several times before facing the final lap. The decisive move came at turn 3. Uriarte took advantage of a problem for Quiles to overtake him and maintained the first position until the checkered flag. The difference between them was barely 63 thousandths.
Matteo Bertelle completed the podium after winning the fight for third place. The Italian crossed the finish line ahead of Marco Morelli and Rico Salmela.
Uriarte moves up to second place in the World Championship
The victory allows Brian Uriarte to move up to second place in the overall Moto3 standings. However, Máximo Quiles maintains a significant lead at the top of the championship. The second place achieved at Sachsenring was Quiles' tenth podium in eleven races contested. The leader leaves Germany with a 104-point advantage over Uriarte.
Álvaro Carpe, who arrived at the event as Quiles' main pursuer, finished eleventh after going off track. That result allowed Uriarte to overtake him in the standings. The German race confirms the progression of the rider from Cantabria, who has two wins in his first full season in the World Championship and has already managed to debut as a winner and as a 'poleman'.
