The fire has forced 500 residents to shelter in place. While the Bombers continue to work to stabilize the fire in Sentmenat and control the one in Gavà, a new fire declared this Wednesday in the municipality of Aiguamúrcia (Tarragona) has necessitated the mobilization of a large extinguishing device and the ordering of new confinements. The coincidence of several high-intensity fires in different parts of the territory has made this day one of the most demanding of the summer for emergency services.
What is known about the fire in Aiguamúrcia?
The fire broke out on the afternoon of July 8 in a forest area near Pla de Manlleu, within the municipality of Aiguamúrcia, in the Alt Camp region. The Bombers have described it as a high-intensity fire, due to the behavior of the flames and the meteorological conditions, with high temperatures and wind. This contributes to spreading the fire rapidly.
According to the initial data from the Rural Agents, the fire already affects approximately 25 hectares, although the area could increase as measurement efforts progress. The flames have forced the closure of roads T-244 and TP-2442, and Civil Protection has ordered the preventive confinement of several population centers,
Per #IFPladeManlleu hem orfenat el confinament preventiu de Pontons, Pla de Manlleu, les Pinedes Altes de Montmell i cases aïllades d'Aiguamúrcia, Valldossera de Querol i zones properes.

More than 150 fires this summer
The Generalitat faces this situation in an especially complicated context. According to the balance sheet released this Wednesday, Catalonia has already surpassed 150 forest fires during the current summer campaign, while hundreds of municipalities remain at very high or extreme risk due to the heatwave and the dryness of the vegetation. The forest area burned in Spain has also increased notably in recent weeks, exceeding 55,000 hectares, more than double that of the same period last year, according to data from the European Forest Fire Information System.
