The Club Abierto de Editores (CLABE) celebrates on April 16 and 17 in La Rioja the twentieth edition of its Congreso de Editores, an event consolidated as one of the main professional forums of the media sector in Spain. In this edition, the meeting focuses on the role of journalism in Spanish in full digital transformation driven by artificial intelligence.

Under the motto The intelligence of language. AI, innovation and media in the era of digital Spanish, the congress takes place in the Rioja Culture Center, in Logroño, and in the Monastery of Yuso, in San Millán de la Cogolla, a World Heritage site and symbol of the origin of Castilian.

The forum analyzes the impact of artificial intelligence on the media value chain, addressing both its opportunities and risks for publishers and professionals, especially in relation to the use of informational content for model training without an equitable rights framework.

A program that unites innovation, business and newsrooms

The XX Congress of Editors offers a program that combines presentations, debate tables, practical workshops and networking spaces, with the participation of professionals from the editorial, technological and academic fields.

CLABE, which represents more than 220 publishing groups and more than 1,500 titles, structures a choral program that articulates a debate on the future of journalism, with the presence of digital platforms and organizations linked to the creation of content in Spanish.

The inaugural day of April 16 has institutional support, with interventions by the mayor of Logroño, Conrado Escobar; the Minister of Culture of the Government of La Rioja, José Luis Pérez Pastor; the Government delegate, Beatriz Arraiz; and the president of CLABE, Arsenio Escolar.

Copyright, business models and glocal newsrooms

The analysis of Spanish as a strategic asset against AI will bring together experts such as Francisco Moreno Fernández and Manuel Rico. The irruption of artificial intelligence in copyright will be addressed by Eva Astorga.

The value of proximity journalism with global ambition will be analyzed in a panel on "glocal" newsrooms, while the intersection between technological innovation, business, and new editorial models will feature the participation of executives from companies such as Telefónica, Webedia, UNIR or Grupo Peldaño.

Furthermore, there will be a debate about collective intelligence in scientific publications, reputation in the era of AI and the new digital ecosystem, with the participation of sector experts and media representatives.

Practical workshops and innovation challenge in newsrooms

The congress reinforces its practical nature with workshops on newsletter creation, integration of artificial intelligence in CMS, use of AI in events or growth strategies on digital platforms.

As one of the milestones of this edition, the Innovation Challenge in Newsrooms La Rioja Digital – CLABE is launched, an initiative aimed at associated media to develop solutions based on artificial intelligence in areas such as automation, content generation, monetization or verification.

The winning project will have mentorship from Google and technological development from CIDATUM.

San Millán de la Cogolla: from the origin of Castilian to the digital future

The day of April 17 will move to the Monastery of Yuso, in San Millán de la Cogolla, with a marked institutional character and a look at the Ibero-American potential of Spanish in the digital ecosystem.

The program will include interventions by European representatives of the sector, the reading of the Internet Day Manifesto and panels on the international projection of Spanish, before the closing ceremony with the president of La Rioja, Gonzalo Capellán, and the president of CLABE, Arsenio Escolar.

Institutional and business support to the Congress

The XX Congress of Editors has broad institutional and business support. Google participates as a gold sponsor, along with the Government of La Rioja, OA Cloud-AWS, UNIR, Fundación Dialnet and Telefónica.

The meeting also has the support of the Logroño City Council and the San Millán de la Cogolla Foundation, as well as the collaboration of various entities in the sector.

CLABE, THE REFERENCE EMPLOYERS' ASSOCIATION OF THE EDITORIAL SECTOR

CLABE is the main employers' association of the media sector in Spain and the only one integrated into CEOE and CEPYME. It represents a broad ecosystem of editorial companies, from news agencies to specialized publications, both in paper and digital format.

With more than 220 editorial groups and more than 1,500 mastheads, the organization is also a founding member of the European Independent Media Publishers, headquartered in Brussels.
