Who is behind Fly2Galicia: owner, capital, and doubts about the new airline from Santiago

Fly2Galicia will begin operations on December 1 from Santiago de Compostela with eight destinations and 17 weekly frequencies. Behind the brand is the businessman Gueorgui Iavorov Popov, sole owner of a company established with one euro and registered as a travel agency. The project is already selling tickets, but still maintains relevant uncertainties about its financing and the airline that will actually operate the flights.

Fly2Galicia has opened ticket sales to start flying from Santiago-Rosalía de Castro airport on December 1, 2026. The new company offers direct connections with three Spanish cities and five European ones, with prices currently starting at 21.50 euros.

However, Fly2Galicia is not yet a traditional airline with its own planes, crews, and operating license. It is a so-called virtual airline: it markets flights under its brand, but plans to hire another European operator to provide the plane, crew, maintenance, insurance, and necessary authorizations.

Who is the owner of Fly2Galicia

Behind Fly2Galicia is Aviation & Mobility Services Group S.L., a company established in Santiago de Compostela in January 2026. According to the Official Bulletin of the Mercantile Registry, the company has as its sole partner and administrator Gueorgui Iavorov Popov Popov, the known formal owner of the project.

The company is domiciled at Plaza de la Quintana, 3, where a shared workspace operates, and is registered under the code corresponding to the activities of travel agencies. Its share capital at the time of incorporation was one euro.

There is no public record of the entry of other partners, a capital increase, or the participation of an investment fund, tourism group, or aerospace company. Nor have banks or financiers been identified that support the launch.

Fly2Galicia has not yet publicly explained what economic resources back the hiring of the plane and the start of operations.

The previous air project of Gueorgui Iavorov Popov

Popov previously promoted another initiative related to air tourism in 2022. He then established Alpha Tour Europe S.L., a sole proprietorship with 3,000 euros of capital dedicated to the activities of tour operators.

The project announced the future marketing of connections between Palma de Mallorca and several German cities, but the flights ultimately did not operate.

This precedent does not imply that Fly2Galicia will have the same outcome, but it explains part of the caution with which the aviation sector has received the announcement. The businessman claims that Fly2Galicia is a different and more ambitious project, the result of more than ten years of professional experience in activities related to aviation, tourism, and transportation.

When will Fly2Galicia start operating

Fly2Galicia plans to start its operations on Tuesday, December 1, 2026. The inaugural flight will depart from Santiago to Zaragoza at 6:40 AM. The initial schedule includes 17 weekly frequencies operated with an Airbus A320 with 180 seats. The company intends to incorporate a second aircraft in April 2027 to increase frequencies and open new routes.

Tickets are scheduled until October 24, 2027, and went on sale this Tuesday, August 18, although the website opening suffered several hours of delay and initial operational issues.

Destinations of Fly2Galicia from Santiago

The new company offers eight direct connections:

  • Alicante: Monday, Thursday, and Saturday.
  • Granada: Monday and Thursday.
  • Zaragoza: Tuesday and Friday.
  • Brussels: Tuesday and Friday.
  • Milan: Tuesday and Friday.
  • Munich: Monday and Thursday.
  • Prague: Wednesday and Sunday.
  • Venice: Wednesday and Saturday.

The minimum prices listed on the website start at 21.50 euros for Alicante, Granada, and Zaragoza; 41.50 euros for Brussels and Milan, and 51.50 euros for Munich, Prague, and Venice.

The cheapest fare includes a personal item and a cabin bag of up to eight kilos.

Why Fly2Galicia has chosen Santiago

Popov explained that the choice of Santiago responds to the loss of direct connections that Galicia has suffered and to the margin that, in his opinion, still exists to expand the air offer of the community. “There is a market for more. The current system is not sufficiently covered. We want Galicians to have more opportunities to fly from their own community,” the promoter stated in an interview given this Tuesday to Cadena SER.

The company wants to use Santiago as the main entry and exit point for Galicia, serving both residents and tourists. The Compostela airport also offers a larger territorial influence area, better passenger figures, and an international tourism component linked to the Camino de Santiago.

The project comes after the closure of the Ryanair base and at a time of reorganization of the connections at Rosalía de Castro airport. Fly2Galicia claims to have worked in coordination with Aena and the Santiago City Council and has held talks with the Xunta.

These meetings do not equate, however, to a public guarantee regarding the viability of the project. The City Council and the Xunta have acknowledged the contacts, but they have distanced themselves from the commercial announcements made by the company.

Popov also does not rule out installing bases in A Coruña and Vigo in the future.

Who will really operate Fly2Galicia flights

Fly2Galicia does not have its own air operator certificate —AOC— nor its own operating license. The company will resort to an ACMI or wet lease contract, a perfectly legal and common model in the sector.

Through this formula, an authorized airline provides the aircraft, crew, maintenance, insurance, certificate, and operational authorizations. Fly2Galicia will be responsible for defining the routes, marketing the tickets, and attending to customers under its own brand.

The identity of the contracted European operator has not yet been officially communicated. Some information points to the Romanian company FLYYO, specialized in ACMI services, but Fly2Galicia has not confirmed it.

Is Fly2Galicia reliable?

With the available information, it is not possible to equate its solvency level to that of an established airline yet.

There are elements that demonstrate that the project has advanced: the company is registered in the Commercial Registry, the commercial website already allows for consulting and purchasing flights, routes, schedules, and fares have been published; the chosen ACMI model is legal and used by other companies; Aena, the Xunta, and the City Council of Santiago have maintained contacts with its managers.

However, important uncertainties persist: the company was established with one euro, no investors or external financiers are known, it does not have its own aircraft or air license, it has not yet officially identified the operator that will carry out the flights, its owner previously promoted another air project that did not reach operation, and the opening of ticket sales began with delays and technical failures.

The decisive step will be to know which company holds the certificate under which the flights will be carried out, to verify that the ACMI contract is closed, and to confirm that the Airbus A320 is indeed based in Santiago.

Until that data is public, the most accurate presentation of Fly2Galicia is as an air project in the launch phase that is already marketing tickets, but whose operational capacity and financial backing have not yet been fully accredited to the public.
