The airport of Santiago-Rosalía de Castro could incorporate a new airline starting next winter. Fly2Galicia plans to start its operations on December 1, 2026, with eight national and European destinations, after several months announcing on social media a project with which it aims to increase direct connections from Galicia. The announced schedule includes flights to Alicante, Zaragoza, Granada, Brussels, Munich, Milan-Malpensa, Prague, and Venice.
The company initially proposes two weekly round trips on each route, except for Alicante, which will have three. This would mean 17 weekly departures from Lavacolla, plus the corresponding return flights. The schedule for this first season will extend, according to the promoters, until October 24, 2027.
Eight destinations from Santiago
The project combines three national routes with five international ones. In Spain, Fly2Galicia aims to connect Santiago directly with Alicante, Zaragoza, and Granada, while its European network will reach Brussels, Munich, Milan-Malpensa, Prague, and Venice.
The connection with Granada, for example, is scheduled from December 1 with two weekly frequencies. Fly2Galicia itself has already promoted the destination, although as of this Sunday the public institutions and the Granada airport had not yet officially announced the route, according to Granada Digital.
The arrival of the project also coincides with a period of strong movement in Lavacolla. The airport currently has 29 destinations operated by ten companies, according to the schedule published by Aena, and is also preparing a significant expansion of Wizz Air, which will incorporate new connections and establish a base in Santiago in February 2027.
Tickets will go on sale this week
Fly2Galicia plans to officially open its website this Tuesday and begin ticket sales for its first season. The promoters advance promotional fares from 19 euros, although the final price will depend on the destination, date, and availability.
The cheapest fare will include, according to the company, one personal item —such as a backpack— and one cabin luggage piece of up to eight kilos. From there, there will be different fare families, from Economy to more flexible options and a Business mode, with additional services such as seat selection, priority boarding, checked baggage, or better conditions for making changes.
For now, however, the official Fly2Galicia website still appears under construction and does not allow checking schedules or purchasing flights.
An Airbus A320 will have its base in Lavacolla
The first operation will be carried out with an Airbus A320 based in Santiago, despite the fact that Fly2Galicia had initially announced on its social media the use of a Boeing 737-800.
All flights of the eight planned routes will be carried out, according to the project, with that same aircraft. Looking ahead to the summer season of 2027, the promoters are working with the possibility of incorporating a second aircraft that would allow expanding the number of destinations.
But there is an important particularity: Fly2Galicia will not initially be the airline operator of the flights.
Fly2Galicia will not have its own AOC for now
The company has not processed a certificate of air operator (AOC) of its own before the State Agency for Air Safety (AESA). Instead, it has opted for a model known in the sector as ACMI or wet lease.
In this system, another airline provides the aircraft and materially carries out the operation under its own AOC and operating license, while Fly2Galicia takes care of marketing the tickets, developing the routes, and managing the product under its brand.
The promoters claim to have reached an agreement with a European operator that already has the necessary authorizations, although its identity has not yet been revealed due to confidentiality clauses. The company maintains that the structure could evolve in the future if the project grows.
This point is relevant when defining Fly2Galicia: in its first stage it will fundamentally be a commercial brand and route development, and not an operating airline with its own certificate.
The company behind Fly2Galicia is registered as a travel agency
Behind the initiative is Aviation & Mobility Services Group S.L., a company established in January 2026 and based in Santiago de Compostela. Its main activity is listed under CNAE 7911, corresponding to travel agency activities, and Fly2Galicia appears as its commercial name.
The company believes that this legal fit is compatible with the proposed model because it will be the contracted European operator who has the necessary licenses to carry out the flights.
For the start of the activity, the promoters estimate the creation of around 25 direct jobs, linked both to the operation and to marketing and other services. The company has already published job offers in Santiago for the commercial development of the project.
Contacts with the Concello and the Xunta
Fly2Galicia claims to have maintained contacts in recent months with both the Concello de Santiago and the Xunta de Galicia. From the Compostela City Council, they have confirmed the dialogue with the company and assess the project as an opportunity to improve the connectivity of Santiago and the whole of Galicia.
The promoters maintain, however, that the start of the activity is not conditioned on obtaining public subsidies, although they do not rule out applying in the future for airport incentive programs or for opening new routes under the same conditions as other operators.
The doubts that still surround the project
The initiative also comes with some uncertainties. Its main promoter and administrator of Aviation & Mobility Services Group, Georgi Iavorov, was previously linked to Alpha Tour Europe, a company that announced in 2022 the marketing of flights from Palma de Mallorca to several German cities.
Iavorov argues that that activity cannot be compared to Fly2Galicia and states that Alpha Tour Europe only conducted eight charter flights during Holy Week for a German client, while the new project aims to maintain a regular schedule, individual ticket sales, and stable routes.
Furthermore, as of this August 16, the public schedule of Aena still does not include Fly2Galicia among the ten companies currently operating in Santiago, nor do destinations such as Munich, Milan-Malpensa, Prague, Venice, or Granada appear in that list. Aena warns, in any case, that its list comes from the airlines' schedules and is subject to change.
Therefore, a good part of the details known so far —including the operator that will carry out the flights, the final schedules, and the specific rates— still come from the promoters of the project and must materialize with the opening of ticket sales and the publication of the final schedule.
If the announced plans are fulfilled, Fly2Galicia will start flying on December 1 with an Airbus A320 based in Lavacolla and a network of eight routes. The next step will come this Tuesday, when the company plans to open its commercial platform and show for the first time schedules, prices, and availability of some flights with which it wants to establish itself as a new airline brand linked to Galicia.
