The PP spokesperson in Parliament, Juan Fernández, has registered a bill with which he intends for celiac taxpayers in Catalunya to be able to apply a deduction of 200 euros in the regional section of personal income tax, as detailed by the party this Saturday in a statement.

With this proposal, the PP aims to alleviate the extra cost that the specific diet for celiacs implies, which the party calculates is between 100% and 300% above the price of usual foods.

Fernández has underlined that celiac disease affects at least 82,000 citizens in Catalonia and has lamented that in the community "there are no tax benefits for families affected by this disease".

To be able to benefit from the deduction in personal income tax, the PP's initiative requires the affected person to prove the diagnosis through an official medical report, with the aim of ensuring that the tax advantage is directed solely at patients with the confirmed illness.

For her part, the deputy secretary of the PP, Carmen Fúnez, has reproached the PSOE for blocking in Congress a law that would contemplate direct aid of 600 euros and the creation of a state registry of celiac people.
