The newly appointed Minister of Finance, Arcadi España, debuted this Wednesday in Congress committing to promote "dialogue" with the aim of moving forward with the reform of regional financing designed by the Government. He has insisted that with this proposal no community "loses" and has stressed that "no one can understand" why the PP flatly rejects it.

Spain has made these statements in its first intervention in a control session, in response to a question from the Compromís deputy integrated into the Sumar group, Alberto Ibáñez, related to the underfunding that the Valencian Community suffers.

In his speech, the Compromís parliamentarian has criticized that the current president of the Generalitat, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, has shown his opposition to the reform of autonomous financing proposed by the Treasury: "It is a cowardly Generalitat, trapped by Mr. Feijóo's electoral calculations."

In the face of these criticisms, Minister España has highlighted the work developed by his predecessor at the head of the Treasury, stressing that she has been "providing unprecedented liquidity" to the autonomous communities since Pedro Sánchez's arrival at La Moncloa.

Even so, Arcadi España has admitted that structural reforms are "necessary" to face the problems of underfunding, with special incidence in the case of the Valencian Community.

Along these lines, it has highlighted the two initiatives that, in its view, the Executive has proposed to address this situation: the forgiveness of part of the debt and the implementation of a new model of regional financing.

According to the head of the Treasury, the new system "is more transparent, more supportive and in which no autonomous community loses", and has stressed that this financing scheme will mean for the Valencian Community close to 3.7 million euros, an amount "that is more than double" of that claimed by Llorca.

"Nobody can understand that this proposal is flatly rejected. Nobody in the Valencian Community understands it, nor in the whole of Spain. Now is the time for dialogue, it is the time for agreement, to bring forward a reform that is good for the country, for the autonomous communities and above all for the citizens", the minister concluded.
