The evolution of the wildfire in the area of Los Garres and Lages (Murcia) offers more favorable signs after a night of intense work by emergency services. Although the fire remains active and the operation is still deployed on the ground, authorities consider that the most immediate risk to nearby homes has been contained.

The president of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, assured during the night that the fire no longer directly threatens the residential areas close to the fire front, one of the aspects that caused the most concern during the first hours of the emergency. The priority of the teams is now focused on preventing the flames from advancing towards new forest areas of the El Valle y Carrascoy regional park.

The situation maintains the Infomur Plan activated in emergency level 2, a level that contemplates the mobilization of significant regional and state resources to combat the fire.

A decisive night to protect homes

The hours following the declaration of the fire were marked by concern over the proximity of the flames to several inhabited areas. The smoke and the advance of the fire forced the adoption of preventive measures and the deployment of a large operation to protect the population.

According to information provided by the authorities, the evolution of the work allowed the front that generated the greatest risk to homes to be contained, significantly reducing the direct threat to residential areas.

This change in scenario has allowed efforts to now focus on consolidating the affected perimeter and extinguishing the hot spots that remain active within the burned area.

More than 300 personnel mobilized

The operation deployed to combat the fire has brought together hundreds of professionals from different agencies. Participating in the work are forest brigades, firefighters, environmental agents, the Guardia Civil, Local Police, and Civil Protection personnel.

During the night, the Military Emergencies Unit (UME) was also incorporated, mobilizing dozens of soldiers and specialized vehicles to reinforce the extinction and perimeter control tasks.

The coordination between the different services has been one of the elements highlighted by the authorities in an intervention that required a rapid response to the initial evolution of the fire.

Awaiting Definitive Stabilization

Estimates released during the early morning hours place the affected area at around 110 hectares, although the definitive figure will depend on measurements taken once the fire is stabilized.

Emergency services have indicated that the situation of the Murcia fire has improved notably compared to the first few hours, although they maintain caution because hot spots and areas requiring constant surveillance continue to exist.

The next few hours will be decisive in confirming the stabilization of the fire. Meanwhile, the operation continues to work on the ground to prevent flare-ups and consolidate the progress made during the night.

The favorable evolution recorded so far allows us to face the day with a more optimistic scenario than what was depicted during the first hours of the emergency, although authorities insist that the fire remains active and cannot yet be considered extinguished.
