At least two people have lost their lives this Wednesday in an attack by the Israeli Army against the Nabatiyé district, in southern Lebanon, just one day after delegations from both countries met in Washington within the framework of a fragile ceasefire, which has been the fifth round of contacts since March.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, Israeli forces attacked a vehicle traveling towards the municipality of Kfar Rumman, causing the death of its two occupants.
The victims are two men identified as Mahmoud and Ahmad Assili, originally from Saksakiyé, in the Saida governorate, as published by the newspaper "L'Orient-Le Jour".
The Israeli Army confirmed in a statement that it carried out an attack against a vehicle, although it assured that the deceased were "two suspects who crossed the security zone of the Ali Taher mountain range (in southern Lebanon) and posed a threat".
Israeli forces specified that the attack was executed "after the identification" of the two individuals, but this time they did not claim they were Hezbollah members, unlike in previous incidents.
Israel's actions in Lebanese territory, along with Tehran's warnings that these attacks violate the pre-agreement reached with Washington and could derail the peace process in the Middle East, have become one of the main focal points of tension in recent talks, even leading to public clashes between Israel and the United States.
This Wednesday, Lebanese authorities have raised the number of deaths to 4,211, including 135 health workers, and the number of injured to 12,173 as a consequence of Israeli bombings on their territory since March 2, the date on which the Israeli Army and Hezbollah resumed their clashes after the offensive launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28.
