The Swiss government has valued this Monday the "constructive progress" achieved during the first meeting between the United States and Iran held on Swiss territory, a meeting aimed at reaching a definitive agreement between both parties.
In a message disseminated on its social networks, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has underlined that "Switzerland celebrates the constructive progress achieved thanks to the intense diplomatic exchanges held in Burgenstock between the United States, Iran, Pakistan and Qatar".
Swiss diplomacy has emphasized the establishment of a high-level committee "based on the memorandum of understanding" signed last week by the presidents of the United States and Iran, as well as the "agreement on a roadmap" to move towards a broader and "definitive" pact within 60 days. In its opinion, "these are positive steps that provide a framework for the next phase of the process and allow technical talks to begin immediately".
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also reiterated that it remains "available (...) to support dialogue, détente, regional stability and peace".
The Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar, Abdulrahman al Thani, has also reacted to the meeting in Switzerland, who, in statements to the English channel of Al Jazeera, has stressed that the preliminary agreement between Tehran and Washington "seeks to create the appropriate environment and framework for the negotiation to take place, to stop the war and its consequences, as well as its impact on the security of the region and the global economy", something that, he has stressed, "has already been achieved".
"It was fundamental that this round of negotiation took place as soon as the memorandum was signed. The objective of these meetings is to lay the groundwork for the negotiation (...) We want to ensure that, given the delicacy of the matter, the process is institutional, well-established and, hopefully, resists any external factors that may affect the negotiation," added the head of Qatari diplomacy.
