The Ministry of Health of Uganda has reported this Friday the detection of two additional cases of Ebola, in full campaign to curb the spread of the hemorrhagic fever originating in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo. With these new infections, the total number of confirmed cases in Ugandan territory rises to nine, in a context in which a fatality has already been registered.

According to a statement disseminated on social networks by the country's medical centers, the Director General of Health of Uganda, Dr. Charles Olaro, has specified that the two new affected individuals correspond to a person who has presented "symptoms compatible with Ebola" and another patient who is "a contact of a previously confirmed case".

"Our rapid response teams acted promptly to isolate the patient as soon as the symptoms were detected. All contacts of this new confirmed case have been identified and are under close surveillance," the health official stated in the message.

According to the latest balance made public by the Congolese government last Tuesday, 121 confirmed cases are currently counted in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with 17 deaths, in addition to 1,077 suspected cases and 238 associated deaths. These figures occur in a particularly delicate scenario due to the armed conflict in the east of the country and the intense movement of the population across borders, which complicates the control of the outbreak.
