The Deputy Secretary of Health and Social Policy of the PP, Carmen Fúnez, stated this Thursday that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, left the parliamentary debate "worse than he entered" the Lower House "and that's saying something". In her opinion, the head of the Executive has stopped supporting the PSOE and the Government itself and is limiting himself to protecting himself, his family, and José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.

These statements were made in an interview on the program 'La Mirada Crítica', on Telecinco, collected by Europa Press, where she insisted that the explanations offered by Sánchez do not convince either the PP or "any Spaniard". "Much of the worst of what he brought in came out of the debate and that's saying something," she emphasized, underlining that the president did not defend any socialist leader, but only "his family interest and Zapatero," whom, according to Fúnez, he "treated like a family member."

"Yesterday we saw a president who no longer defends Spain, nor the Government, nor his party, but himself and his family," reiterated the popular leader, remarking that, in her opinion, Sánchez has reduced his political action to a strictly personal circle.

Defense of Feijóo after the allusion to Patxi López's father

Fúnez also defended the president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, for the reference he made to the father of the spokesperson for the Socialist Group in Congress, Patxi López. During the debate, the leader of the PP evoked the figure of the socialist leader's father to point out that he would not like to see the position his son is currently holding.

Patxi López replied that Feijóo "would have to be born three times" to be able to speak of his father. Faced with this, Carmen Fúnez maintained that the leader of the PP did not utter any attack against the father of the socialist spokesperson and denounced that, since Feijóo took over the presidency of the party, Pedro Sánchez "has done nothing else" but attack his family with "fake news." In this context, she censured that the President of the Government mentioned the popular leader's home, where a 9-year-old minor resides.

On this point, she explained that Feijóo limited himself to recalling that Patxi López became lehendakari thanks to the PP's votes and that he was the one who asked Sánchez if he knew "what a nation was". Now, Fúnez added, the president has gone on to say "I, with Begoña". This comparison has served her to maintain that the PSOE has put "everything at the service of the head of the Executive's family".

Relationship with Vox and objective of removing Sánchez from Moncloa

Asked about the situation of relations between the PP and Vox, Carmen Fúnez pointed out that her party is clear that its priority is the "general interest of Spaniards" and insisted that they will do "everything that is useful" for the citizens. In this regard, she considers it "urgent to remove Pedro Sánchez from Moncloa as soon as possible".

"It is our only interest and to the extent that the ballot boxes allow it, we will do everything possible for that to happen," she affirmed, specifying that the debate is not whether the relationship with Vox is better or worse, but the need for a "strong, solid and stable" Executive, which Feijóo aspires to be on his own.

However, she acknowledged that we will have to wait for the verdict of the ballot boxes when they open. To conclude her speech, she lamented that Sánchez did not take advantage of the debate to announce the call for elections despite "the corruption that surrounds him". In her opinion, the president's behavior was "disappointing" and she summarized the situation as "it is disheartening".
