The PNV spokesperson in Congress, Maribel Vaquero, on Tuesday questioned the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, about "what room this Government has" for the remaining time of the legislature "to make sense" after the ruling in the Mascarillas case. In her speech, she issued a stern warning: "It may be that after you, it will be like with Attila, that grass does not grow."

During the debate in the Plenary Session of Congress on the occasion of Sánchez's appearance, Vaquero stressed that the judicial ruling affects who was a man of the president's "utmost trust" in the party and in the Executive. She remarked that, "beyond the interpretations" of the differences between sentences, the judicial resolution makes it clear that "it is no longer about speculations or hoaxes," but about a conviction that details "serious crimes" committed during his first term.

The PNV representative recalled that Sánchez first came to La Moncloa through the motion of no confidence against Mariano Rajoy, supported by her group following the ruling in the Gürtel case. Eight years later, she lamented that the focus of political debate is not on reforms for quality employment, competitiveness, sustainability, dependency, housing, families, or the territorial model, but rather revolves "again and lamentably, around corruption."

Vaquero warned that the investiture majority has eroded "to become a negative majority" and pointed out that there is barely sufficient support to pass bills, while other texts, such as the official secrets law, remain "at the bottom of the drawer."

She also censured the "abuse of decrees" and called on Sánchez to detail how he intends to achieve the Chamber's support to approve the General State Budgets. In this regard, she wondered if there is a "common minimum" that allows the accounts to be saved or if each party will use its budgetary proposals as "its first campaign act."
