The Center for Scientific and Technological Research of Extremadura (Cicytex) will hold in Badajoz this Wednesday, November 4, a day integrated into the TID4GRO project, in which different innovation and digitalization tools aimed at the agri-food sector will be presented.

During the meeting, the development of solutions and technologies based on advanced sensorization, monitoring and artificial intelligence systems, oriented toward traceability, process optimization and product improvement in the agroindustry and in agroforestry holdings, will be presented, according to the Junta de Extremadura in a statement.

These tools have been designed and put into operation within a cross-border cooperation project between Spain and Portugal, the TID4GRO project (Advanced, innovative and digital technologies for the agri-food sector), which will conclude in December 2026.

The initiative has been promoted through a public-private collaboration model, in which 15 cooperation agreements with companies have been signed. Thanks to this, it has been possible to test and validate methodologies, models and technologies applied to the agri-food field.

In addition, 32 agri-food industries and cooperatives have been accompanied through various actions, among which are the evaluation of the level of implementation of innovative technologies, specialized advice on digitalization processes and the preparation of action plans to accelerate their digital transformation.

The day's program is organized into three blocks or sessions: enabling technologies for the agri-food and forestry industry; solutions aimed at livestock systems and products of animal origin; and proposals for digitalization in agroforestry systems.

The session will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the interventions of the counselor for Industry, Energy, Science and Territory, Mercedes Morán; the president of the Board of Directors of Iniav (National Institute of Agricultural and Veterinary Research), María Margarida Oliveira; and the director of Cicytex, Eduardo Madruga.

The event is aimed at managers and technical staff of agricultural, livestock and forestry holdings; wineries, olive oil mills, fruit and vegetable packing centers, meat industries, cheese dairies, cooperatives and other agri-food companies, as well as technology-based companies, universities and R&D centers interested in technologies applied to the rural environment.

The day is driven by Cicytex and will feature the participation of research and technical staff from the University of Extremadura, University of Évora, Centro de Apoyo Tecnológico Agroalimentario de Castelo Branco and various collaborating companies.

To attend, registration is required, and the deadline will remain open until capacity is reached. The meeting will be held in the auditorium of the Instituto Tecnológico Agroalimentario de Extremadura, a center attached to Cicytex.

Project TID4AGRO

TID4AGRO is a project aligned with the objectives of promoting technological modernization, sustainability, competitiveness and the transfer of innovation between Spain and Portugal. It has co-financing from the European Union through the Interreg VI-A Spain-Portugal Program (Poctep) 2021-2027 of the European Commission.

The initiative began in January 2024 and 12 Spanish and Portuguese entities participate: three universities (Extremadura, Évora and Aveiro); two public agricultural research centers (Cicytex and Instituto Nacional de Investigação Agrária e Veterinária); private technological centers (Associação Centro de Apoio Tecnológico Agro-Alimentar de Castelo Branco and Ctaex); entities specialized in innovation and entrepreneurship (Fundecyt-Pctex and Instituto Pedro Nunes); a public-private partnership (SMART Farm Colab) and two federations of agri-food cooperatives (Confederação Nacional das Cooperativas Agrícolas e do Crédito Agrícola de Portugal and Cooperativas Agroalimentarias de Extremadura).
